Job Description

This organisation is seeking a highly driven and experienced Senior Quantity Survey to join their London team.


Their sectors of operation include residential, commercial, arts & leisure, and education - with residential developments being their primary area of focus.


You will be joining a company led at the very top level by Chartered Surveyors, meaning professional development, knowledge sharing and best practice are at the very core of how they deliver their services. They are looking for an individual who has the initiative to hit the ground running. The work pace is fast and understanding their objective to be 'the consultant of choice' is key to how they deliver an exceptional service.


Responsibilities:


No two days will be the same for their Senior Surveyors, but your general responsibilities will include:


Cost Management


  • Lead all aspects of quantity surveying service on the projects.

  • Prepare Order of Cost Estimates and Elemental Cost Plans for construction projects.

  • Cost planning using your expertise in CostX

  • Monitoring and controlling costs through the RIBA design stages and proactively engaging with specialists and the market in order to test.


Tendering and Procurement


  • Develop and manage the tending process, including preparing tender documentation and evaluating bids.

  • Liaise with contractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotes and ensure the best value for money.

  • Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers and subcontractors.

  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a comprehensive procurement database and records of all tendering activities.


Contract Administration


  • Administer contracts and manage contractual relationships with clients, contractors, and subcontractors.

  • Prepare and review contract documents, including terms and conditions, specifications, and drawings.

  • Evaluate and negotiate contract variations, claims and disputes.


Client Liason


  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates and addressing concerns.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and ensuring satisfaction.

  • Prepare and present detailed reports to clients, highlighting project status, financial performance, and risks.


Team Leadership


  • Lead, mentor, and develop junior quantity surveying staff, providing guidance and support.

  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively, ensuring efficient workflow and project delivery.

  • Foster a collaborative and positive working environment within the quantity surveying team.


Risk Management


  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks, developing mitigation strategies as needed.

  • Conduct risk assessments and contingency planning to address potential project challenges.

  • Produce detailed costed risk register for your projects calculating risk in line with NRM1 requirements.


Compliance and Standards


  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations and best practices.

  • Stay up-to-date with changes in construction laws, regulations and market conditions.

Requirements

The right individual will have:


  • Proficiency in CostX and/or quantity surveying software and tools

  • You will be an expert in producing elemental cost plans at all design stages for residential projects.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in quantity surveying.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Professional accreditation (e.g. MRICS, MCIOB) (desirable)

  • In-depth knowledge of construction costs, contracts, and procurement processes.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Confidence at client meetings.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities

  • A full, clean driving license (desirable)
